Execute Mission: Shower Simulation Challenge

Objective:

As the executive in charge of showers at a MSA, your challenge is to experience firsthand the time pressure, logistics, and real-world demands of an HGV driver using shower facilities. This mission is designed to give you a deeper understanding of the driver’s experience and will test your time management and problem-solving skills.

Mission Briefing:

Stop at an MSA, use the showers, purchase refreshments, all within a 45-minute break.

Mission Details:

1.Preparation:

Bring a full change of clothes (including underwear), a shaving and /or hair kit and a toothbrush. You will not have time to return to your vehicle after starting the mission, so ensure you are fully equipped.

2. Time Limit:

You have 45 minutes from the moment your vehicle stops to complete the entire mission and return to your car.

3. Arrival at MSA:

Upon arrival, park your vehicle in a spot at the opposite end of the car park to simulate the walk from the truck park to the facility. Note the time when you stop.

4. Stay Focused:

Avoid unnecessary interactions with other persons. No idle chat! No Socialising.

5. Key Exchange:

Your first stop is to get a shower key. Do not waste time, this needs to be quick.

6. Toilet Break:

Head to the toilets. For the purpose of the simulation, GO INTO THE CUBICLE WITH YOUR BAG and have a sit down for 2 minutes.

7. Shower and Grooming:

Shower, shave, brush your teeth, and change into your fresh clothes. Be thorough but quick. Time is of the essence.

8. Your Dirty Laundry:

Remember, as a trucker, dirty laundry will stay with you for UPTO 5 days, so keep it dry.

9. Return the Key:

After freshening up, allow time to head back to return your shower key.

10. Coffee:

Purchase a TAKEAWAY coffee. Carry it back to your vehicle.

Overnight Stop:

You might have been thinking that this simulation is not realistic as most drivers will shower during an overnight stop. Most HGV drivers, will stop for only nine hours and the recommendation in the book “Why We Sleep” by Matthew Walker is seven hours. Leaving two hours, to shower, eat and catch-up with loved ones by phone.

Mission Control Note:

Record your time. Write a report of the experience.
